“I’m Just Going To Rock My Baby To Sleep Mummy”
The other day my little girl picked up her doll and said, “I’m just going to rock my baby to sleep.”
She said it so naturally as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. And it made me wonder, where did she learn that? How did she just know that this is what you do to help a baby sleep?
I guess it’s everywhere isn’t it? In books, on TV, through role play, the way we instinctively sway when we hold a baby.
And of course rocking does work, I am definitely not saying it shouldn’t be used as it’s probably one of the most natural ways to settle a baby.
But there is another way too. Babies can learn to fall asleep independently and when they do it can often leads to more restful nights for themselves and their parents.
It’s not about “right” or “wrong” but about knowing that different approaches exist and choosing what works best for your family.
