Why Your Baby Wakes All Night And What You Can Do About It…
If your little one wakes up constantly during the night, needing to be fed, rocked or held back to sleep, you are not alone. The good news? You can change this without leaving your baby to cry alone.
Here’s why frequent night waking happens and what you can do to help your baby (and yourself!) get more rest.
3 Common Reasons for Frequent Night Wakings:
1️⃣ They rely on a sleep association. If your baby always falls asleep while feeding, rocking or being held, they may struggle to link their sleep cycles without that same help.
👉 The fix: Start practicing putting baby down awake and using gentle settling techniques.
2️⃣ They aren’t getting enough daytime sleep. Overtired babies wake more at night. If naps are short or inconsistent, night sleep often suffers.
👉 The fix: Look at your baby’s wake windows and tweak their nap schedule for better night time sleep.
3️⃣ They’re ready for a more independent sleep approach. Some babies naturally sleep longer stretches, while others need a little guidance to learn how to settle between sleep cycles.
👉 The fix: Introduce a gentle sleep strategy that matches your parenting style and baby’s temperament.
This is exactly what I helped a recent family with. Their 7-month-old was waking 3 to 10 times a night, only napping on them and mum was worried about returning to work. Look out for their full story this week.
